Mrs. Kennedy Welcomed to India

Mar. 12, 1962 - Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy received a glowing welcome to India today. The President’s wife saw a panorama of smiling faces, waving children, color costumes and dazzling jewelry, with a dose of traditional pageantry for good measure. Thousands of Indians flocked to the roadsides to see her ride past. Mrs. Kennedy beamed radiantly as she was whisked to several of New Delhi’s landmarks. Temperatures were in the seventies and flowers were in bloom almost everywhere. The seamy side of India, an underdeveloped country of 459,000,000 people, was not visible to the First Lady today.
