Kennedy Won't Guarantee "Free Flow of Information" on Vietnam

Feb. 7, 1962 - President Kennedy said at his news conference today that he could not guarantee a free flow of information to U.S. newsmen and the American people about the guerrilla fighting in South Vietnam. He declared that the war was of “increasing ferocity” with a large number of casualties. Information that could be of assistance to the enemy, he said, cannot be made available without the concurrence of the South Vietnamese Government, “which bears the primary responsibility.”
