First Lady Visits Children in Indian Hospital

Mar. 13, 1962 - Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy passed out lollipops to ailing Indian children today. The wife of the President spent half an hour visiting with patients in the children’s section of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. An aide said later that Mrs. Kennedy had felt it was the most rewarding experience of the first two days of her visit to India. Mrs. Kennedy stopped beside about a dozen beds. At the bed of a kidney patient named Titu, she remarked to a nurse: “He’s sweet. How old is he?” “Four,” the nurse replied. “Ah,” said the First Lady, “just the same as my little girl.” Mrs. Kennedy spent time with twelve young children and handed each a lollipop from a large basket of American candy.
