Judy Garland Separates from Husband and Manager, Sid Luft

Aug. 7, 1961 - Judy Garland (left), the singer, has separated from her husband, Sid Luft (right), her manager said today. Miss Garland, now in Atlantic City, is due in California soon for a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Her manager, Freddy Fields, said he had talked to Miss Garland by telephone and she had confirmed rumors of the separation. Movies: Richard Burton to quit "Camelot" for "Cleopatra" with Elizabeth Taylor

Aug. 7, 1961 - It is now official that Richard Burton will quit the musical "Camelot" on Sept. 16 to act with Elizabeth Taylor in the film "Cleopatra." A spokesman for Mr. Burton confirmed a report that the management of "Camelot" received more than $50,000 to release Mr. Burton, whose contract would have expired Dec. 2. Aug. 5, 1961 - Twentieth Century-Fox is preparing to open the vaults - the old R.K.O. vaults, that is - for a remake of the 1940 comedy, "My Favorite Wife," which starred Irene Dunne and Cary Grant. Movies: MGM to Produce Adaptation of "Jumbo"

Aug. 4, 1961 - MGM will produce an adaptation of the stage musical "Jumbo," which was originally produced by Billy Rose in 1935. It will be one of MGM's most ambitious musical ventures to date, with a large cast headed so far by Doris Day, Stephen Boyd, Jimmy Durante, and Martha Raye.
