Sept. 8, 1961 - Curt Jürgens (right) has been signed for the role of Maj. Gen. Gunther Blumentritt, the German staff officer, in "The Longest Day." In addition, Darryl F. Zanuck, who is producing the film in Normandy, has signed the German director Bernhard Wicki, who made "The Bridge," to collaborate with Gerd Oswald on the German sequences. "The Longest Day" is based on Cornelius Ryan's 1959 non-fiction book of the same name about the D-Day landings at Normandy on June 6, 1944.
