Sept. 7, 1961 - Screen rights to Harold Robbins' novel, "The Carpetbaggers," have been acquired by Joseph E. Levine's Embassy Pictures Corporation. The Hollywood drama is scheduled for production next year on a $5 million budget. The book tells the story of Jonas Cord, a disagreeable young tycoon who is building planes, directing films, and catting around in 1930's Hollywood.
