Castro Aide Warns U.S.: “The Missiles Will Fly”

Sept. 22, 1962 - Blas Roca (pictured to Fidel Castro’s left), one of Cuba’s top Communist leaders, was quoted today by the Havana radio as warning the Americans that the moment they step into Cuba, the “missiles will fly.” Dr. Roca spoke today to tobacco workers at a factory in Havana. “An indirect aggression,” he said, “will be liquidated by the Cuban people in a very short time. At the moment the imperialists step in, the missiles will fly.” He said the imperialists now “will not only have to face the Cuban people but the might of the Soviet Union and other Socialist countries. This would mean the end of imperialism.”
