Oct. 17, 1961 - In Talladega, Alabama today, a Ku Klux Klansman was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for dragging a white man and wife from their home and flogging them. Francis Roland Kelley, 33, was convicted of beating Mrs. Marlin D. White. He then pleaded guilty to flogging her husband. He was one of eight persons accused of taking the couple to a lonely spot in the woods and flogging them last May because the couple had allowed a Negro maid to discipline their children.
