May 9, 1962 - Singer Rosemary Clooney divorced actor José Ferrer today in a brief hearing in Santa Monica, Calif., that contrasted with weeks of wrangling over a financial settlement. Mr. Ferrer said he was still hopeful of a reconciliation — “if she’ll let me.” But Miss Clooney said, “There is no chance of a reconciliation.” The agreement on a financial settlement that will give Miss Clooney $1,500 a month in support and $300 for each of the couple’s five children came late today. The out-of-court settlement made it possible to avoid further open-court airing of the couple’s differences. Superior Judge Mervyn Aggeler granted the interlocutory decree on grounds of mental cruelty.
