July 9, 1961 - The indefinite postponement of a proposed telecast of W. Somerset Maugham's "Rain," in which Marilyn Monroe (pictured at New York's Polyclinic Hospital) was to have portrayed Sadie Thompson, was announced this weekend. A spokesman for the actress said that the postponement was necessary because of her recent surgery. The telecast was to have entered rehearsal this month for presentation next season on NBC-TV. It was said that Miss Monroe and the network "are hoping to complete arrangements for 'Rain' or another project in 1962."
