Apr. 16, 1963 - The First Lady’s pregnancy has caused President and Mrs. Kennedy to postpone until early 1964 their state visit to Italy. The President will go to Italy this June as planned, however, for what the White House described as a “working visit.” “Mrs. Kennedy will not be able to travel this spring and summer, but both the President and Mrs. Kennedy wish to make this state visit to Rome together,” the White House statement said. There has been no change in the President’s plans to visit West Germany on the same trip in June. Mrs. Kennedy had not been scheduled to make that part of the European tour. It was announced yesterday that Mrs. Kennedy will have her third child in the latter half of August.
