🚨President and Mrs. Kennedy Expecting Third Child

🚨Apr. 15, 1963 - President and Mrs. Kennedy are expecting their third child in the latter part of August, the White House announced today. The baby will be the third born to President and Mrs. Kennedy. Their daughter Caroline was born Nov. 27, 1957, and their son John Jr. was born Nov. 25, 1960. The White House statement, issued by Press Secretary Pierre Salinger, said Mrs. Kennedy’s physicians had “advised her to cancel all her official activities.” It was learned this meant that Mrs. Kennedy would not accompany her husband when he visits Italy, Germany, and probably Ireland in June. Mrs. Kennedy will spend most of the summer on Cape Cod but expects to have the baby in Washington. Mrs. Kennedy’s principal physician is Dr. John Walsh of Washington, who was the surgeon when John Jr. was born. That birth required a Caesarean section. In 1956, Mrs. Kennedy had a miscarriage while her husband, then a Senator, was seeking the Democratic vice-presidential nomination. Considering this medical history, her doctors thought it best for her to end her official schedule after four-and-a-half months of the current pregnancy. Mrs. Kennedy will be the first President’s wife this century to give birth to a baby while her husband is in office. John Jr. was born in November 1960, while Mr. Kennedy was President-elect. The President is only one of three Kennedys expected to enlarge the already large clan with babies this summer. Attorney General and Mrs. Robert F. Kennedy are expecting their eighth child, and Senator and Mrs. Edward M. Kennedy their third.
