On Sale Today: “Glad All Over” — Debut Album from Dave Clark Five

Mar. 17, 1964 - On sale today is “Glad All Over,” the debut album by the English rock group, The Dave Clark Five. Epic Records released the album to capitalize on the success of the album’s title track, which knocked the Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand” off the top of the U.K. Singles Chart. The group performed the song “Glad All Over” on The Ed Sullivan Show on March 8. The song features Mike Smith leading unison group vocals in a style similar to the Beatles, a saxophone line used not for solo decoration but underneath the whole song, and a “wall of sound” production style known as the “Tottenham Sound.” The group was formed in 1958 in Tottenham, London.
