May 7, 1962 - Maureen Stapleton will make her musical comedy screen debut in “Bye Bye Birdie,” now in production at Columbia Studios in Hollywood. Janet Leigh, Dick Van Dyke, and Ann-Margret (pictured) are in the leads. The adaption of the Broadway stage success is being directed by George Sidney. The story was inspired by the drafting of Elvis Presley into the Army in 1957.
