May 2, 1962 - Alabama State Senator Ryan DeGraffenried seemed almost certain tonight of a run-off in the Governorship race with front-running George C. Wallace (pictured). With returns from yesterday’s Democratic primary virtually complete, Mr. DeGraffenried was holding off a strong challenge from former Gov. James E. Folsom. Mr. Wallace, former circuit judge from Clayton, campaigned on a platform of open defiance of Federal intervention in school segregation. Mr. DeGraffenried urged a more moderate approach.
