Florida State Student Arrested at Football Game

Sept. 28, 1963 - James D. Morrison (pictured), a 19-year-old student at Florida State University, was arrested today for being a publicly intoxicated prankster during a school football game against Texas Christian University. After consuming what was described as “a fair amount of wine,” Mr. Morrison proceeded to make loud fun of both the football players and people in the crowd at Tallahassee’s Doak Campbell Stadium. The police were called, but before they could catch and arrest Mr. Morrison, he stole an umbrella and then a police officer’s helmet from a squad car. He was charged with “disturbing the peace by being drunk,” resisting arrest, and petty larceny. Texas Christian won the game against the Seminoles, 13-0.
