Bob Hope to Receive Congressional Gold Medal

June 13, 1962 - Bob Hope will receive the coveted Gold Medal authorized by Congress, made by the mint, and presented by the President. President Kennedy recently signed into law a resolution giving the screen star and radio-television comedian the medal in recognition of his “services to his country and to the cause of world peace.” The resolution noted Mr. Hope’s contributions to sustaining the morale of the armed forces by his visits to bases over many years. The Gold Medal has previously been awarded to George M. Cohan and Irving Berlin. A resolution to award a similar medal to Danny Kaye is pending in Congress.
