Jan. 31, 1962 - Two members of the Flying Wallendas circus high-wire act lost their lives last night in a fall as the troupe performed at a Shrine circus. Two other aerialists, one a girl, were injured seriously. Richard Faughan, 29, and Dieter Schoep, 33, were injured fatally in a fall of 50 feet from the wire to the floor of the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum. Aug. 4, 1961 - MGM will produce an adaptation of the stage musical "Jumbo," which was originally produced by Billy Rose in 1935. It will be one of MGM's most ambitious musical ventures to date, with a large cast headed so far by Doris Day, Stephen Boyd, Jimmy Durante, and Martha Raye. The color production will be loaded with circus specialty acts - human and animal - and will retain all the original Rodgers and Hart songs from the stage production. #movienight #movietime #mov
