Jan. 24, 1963 - A white University of Mississippi student who befriended James Meredith, a Negro student, said today that someone poured lighter fluid under his dormitory door last night and set it afire. The student, Sheldon Stock of Hamilton, Ont., had been harassed several times previously. He said he will not return to Ole Miss next semester. Stock said several soft drink bottles were hurled through the transom to his room last night at about the same instant the fire flared up. He said he had no trouble putting out the blaze. Stock shares a room with William Temple of Washington. Temple, too, has been harassed for his friendly attitude toward Meredith.
