May 3, 1965 - The mystery Industry Minister Ernesto Che Guevara’s whereabouts deepened today.
The newspaper Revolución, the only Monday morning daily in Havana, published two pictures showing Premier Fidel Castro holding Guevara’s little daughter during Saturday’s May Day parade and Vice Premier Raul Castro, the Premier’s brother, chatting with Aleida March Guevara, the Argentine-born Minister’s Cuban second wife.
Guevara, an old associate of Castro and, until recently, considered a leader of the Cuban regime, was absent Saturday. Today, there had been no explanation.
Guevara, a nonpracticing medical doctor, has not been seen in public since soon after his return March 14 from an extended tour abroad, with visits to a number of African and Asian countries, including Communist China. He has been identified with pro-Chinese tendencies in Cuban Communism. Castro has established a close alliance with the Soviet Union.
Theories advanced by diplomats ranged from an ideologic split to illness to another trip abroad.
