Mar. 4, 1965 - The San Francisco Warriors came from behind repeatedly tonight to defeat Detroit, 115-110, and drop the Pistons three games behind the Baltimore Bullets for the third and final playoff spot in the NBA’s Western Division. (Pictured below is San Francisco’s high scorer for the night, Nate Thurmond.)
The Pistons’ string of four victories was snapped after the Warriors edged into a 104-104 tie and sealed the triumph on late drive-in baskets by Paul Neumann and Guy Rodgers.
It was the third loss in three appearances for the Pistons on the “neutral court” at the War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind., their one-time home before they moved to Detroit in 1957.
Terry Dischinger was the high man for Detroit with 30 points. Rod Thorn got 19 and player-coach Dave DeBusschere 18.
But the Warriors made the most of a foul-marked game and got enough scoring punch from Nate Thurmond’s 25 points and 18 each from Neumann and Tom Meschery to secure the victory.
