[VIDEO] June 10, 1965 | Pete Seeger Interviewed in San Diego

June 10, 1965 - Folk singer Pete Seeger performed at the Civic Theater in San Diego, Calif., tonight while anti-Communist demonstrators marched outside. Among the placards were some that read: “Ban Reds from Community Buildings” and “Pete Seeger Admits Use of Red Propaganda in his folk music.”

Leaflets referring to alleged Communist connections of Seeger were distributed by the San Diego Patriotic society.

In 1936, at the age of 17, Seeger joined the Young Communist League (YCL), then at the height of its influence. In 1942, he joined the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), but he left it in 1949.

After the concert, Seeger was interviewed by Harold Keen.
