Feb. 8, 1964 - The Beatles rehearsed today at the CBS studio at West 53rd St. for their performance tomorrow night on The Ed Sullivan Show. Police had to block off the area to save the Beatles from the ardor of about 300 fans shrieking on nearby sidewalks. Inside the theater, Mr. Sullivan watched the Beatles rehearse, his features showing an expression that might have been puzzlement. “I’ve been in this business for a long time,” he said, “but I can’t remember anything like the reaction this group has produced.”
The Beatles are staying at the Plaza Hotel, where waiters have been forced to ask guests suffering from Beatlemania to remove their Beatle wigs while in the hotel. “Frankly,” said one waiter, “I wouldn’t mind if somebody exterminated the whole lot.”
