Feb. 25, 1964 - Singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, 22, was the guest tonight on The New Steve Allen Show. After a brief interview, Dylan performed his song, “The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll.” The song was released on his latest album, “The Times They Are a-Changin,’” and gives a generally factual account of the slaying of a 51-year-old barmaid, Hattie Carroll, by William Zantzinger, a young man from a wealthy white tobacco farming family in Charles County, Maryland, and of his subsequent sentence to six months in a county jail.
