Undefeated Cassius Clay Knocks Out George Logan in Fourth Round

Apr. 23, 1962 - Undefeated Cassius Clay scored a fourth-round knockout over George Logan tonight in the main event on a four-fight boxing card at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Referee Lee Grossman stopped the action at 1 minute 34 seconds of the fourth after Logan’s corner tossed in the towel. Logan, 205 pounds, was heavily battered by Clay, 196. The 20-year-old former Olympic and Gold Glove champion made a bloody mess of Logan’s face. At the end, Logan was bleeding from a cut under his right eye and from the nose. Clay, boxing at long range, speared Logan with stiff left jabs and shook him with left hooks and right-cross combinations. The victory was Clay’s 10th by knockout in 13 professional fights. The 25-year-old Logan suffered his eighth defeat and first knockout in 31 fights.
