Apr. 30, 1964 - The 20th Century-Fox Studio, which was dormant a year ago, will enter one of its busiest periods in years in May.
By the time Fox stockholders hold their annual meeting on May 19, six or seven movies will be before the cameras in Hollywood and segments for four television series will be under way. Last year, Fox had no television series.
Among the movies to be shot at the Fox studio in May are “Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte,” “Rio Conchos,” “Erasmus with Freckles” “The Pleasure Seekers,” and “The Reward.” The filming of “John Goldfarb, Please Come Home,” is under way on location, after several weeks of shooting Hollywood.
The television series are “12 O’Clock High,” “Daniel Boone,” “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea,” and “Peyton Place.” The last one is a nocturnal soap opera that will be shown in half-hour segments, twice a week.
In addition to these projects, Fox is now making “The Sound of Music” abroad (pictured are star Julie Andrews and director Robert Wise). But it will be brought back to the studio for final shooting. Two other movies are planned for later this summer at the studio. They are “Von Ryan’s Express” and “The Fantastic Voyage.”
The foreign shooting schedule for Fox is also heavy.
Now being made in England is “Guns at Batasi,” and in Crete, Fox is shooting “Zorba the Greek.” Planned for production abroad this summer are “Morituri,” “The Sand Pebbles,” “The Agony and the Ecstasy,” “Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines,” “A High Wind in Jamaica,” “Epitaph for an Enemy,” and “Rapture in My Rags.”
Fox, which last year was having difficulty attracting important talent for movies, now has an imposing collection of stars in the films being made this year. They include Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Shirley MacLaine, Anthony Quinn, Tony Curtis, Peter Ustinov, James Stewart, Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Debbie Reynolds, Richard Attenborough, Steve McQueen, Jack Hawkins, Rex Harrison, and Charlton Heston.
