June 28, 1962 - Two half-hour specials about Telstar, the communications satellite that will make possible live trans-Atlantic TV, are planned by NBC-TV. Both will be sponsored by the Bell Telephone System. The first of these, “Project Telstar,” will be shown after the satellite launching, which is expected before the middle of July. It will explain the workings of the satellite and the ground stations and will examine the developments that led to the achievement. The second show will be preceded by the actual first trans-oceanic telecasts and will study the implications of the communications system for future worldwide use.
