Oct. 2, 1961 - The title role in the new CBS comedy series, "Mr. Ed," is played by a talking horse of the same name. Last night, in the animal's debut, Mr. Ed adopted a pony only to discover that the latter actually was a grandfather. Considerable skill was employed in synchronizing human words with the movement of the horse's lips. Only time — and ratings — will tell if the device will wear thin. Co-starring with the animal is Alan Young (right).
