Feb. 12, 1963 - George Maharis (left), co-star of the CBS series “Route 66,” has been suspended by Screen Gems for “failure to report to work.” Maharis suffered a bout of hepatitis last summer, returned to work briefly this fall, then left again for more “convalescing.” Signed as a new co-star and continuing character for the series is Glenn Corbett of the defunct “It’s a Man’s World.” He will join the production company in Houston. Corbett will play a young Texan recently returned from Vietnam. According to Screen Gems, if he proves effective in episodes this season, he probably will be signed to co-star with Martin Milner, the other series regular, throughout next season.
