Jan. 8, 1965 - The premiere of “For the People,” a drama series on which William Shatner portrays an assistant district attorney, has been postponed a week, until Jan. 31. The series will be televised by CBS on Sundays from 9 to 10 p.m.
Herbert Brodkin, executive producer, said he was responsible for the postponement.
“CBS wanted to start Jan. 24, but I said we should wait a week,” Brodkin said today. “Right now, we are shooting the fifth show, but it takes nine days to make a picture, and they are used at the rate of one every seven days. So, if we went on the air Jan. 24, in a few weeks we would have to repeat a show, and I don’t want to do that.”
Other regular cast members of “For the People” include Howard Da Silva, Lonny Chapman, and Jessica Walter.
The T.V. industry has considerable interest in the outcome of the CBS decision to introduce a drama series in mid-season directly opposite NBC’s “Bonanza,” the highest rated show on television.
“I don’t know what it means to go against ‘Bonanza,’” Brodkin said, “but I guess I’ll find out.”
