Feb. 3, 1964 - It is definite that “Bewitched,” a new situation comedy starring Elizabeth Montgomery, will be televised by ABC next season at 9 p.m. on Thursdays. Miss Montgomery, the daughter of actor Robert Montgomery, plays the wife of a Madison Avenue advertising executive portrayed by Dick York. In “Bewitched,” Miss Montgomery is a Connecticut housewife who cannot resist invoking her powers of witchcraft. The series will be directed by William Asher, husband of the actress. Screen Gems, producer of “Bewitched,” said the series would be co-sponsored by Quaker Oats and Chevrolet.
In another ABC development, it was reported that the network was considering switching “Ben Casey” back to Mondays at 10 p.m. next season. Last fall, the show was moved to Wednesday evening. But if “Ben Casey” returns to Monday at 10, it might bring action by the show’s owner, Bing Crosby Productions. The Crosby company also owns “Lawmaker,” a new series CBS has scheduled for Monday at 10 beginning next fall. No producer likes to have its shows competing.
