June 19, 1962 - “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” a half-hour situation comedy based on the 1939 film with James Stewart, will be shown Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. on ABC starting Sept. 29. Fess Parker (right) has been cast in the role of the freshman Senator. Red Foley, host of Western-style music shows, will co-star. Sandra Warner (left) plays the Senator’s wife.
