Feb. 9, 1963 - Actor Tony Curtis and German actress Christine Kaufmann were married last night in a civil ceremony at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas. It was the second marriage for Curtis, 37, formerly wed to actress Janet Leigh, and the first for Miss Kaufmann, who celebrated her 18th birthday less than a month ago. The ceremony was performed by Clark County Superior Court Judge George Marshall. Actor Kirk Douglas (left) was the best man, and his wife Anne (right) was matron of honor. A reception was held in the suite after the wedding. The guests included singer Eddie Fisher and comedienne Edie Adams. Miss Kaufmann, who appeared with Curtis in “Taras Bulba,” hurried to the telephone after the ceremony to call her mother, Mrs. Genevieve Kaufmann, in Munich, Germany. Mrs. Kaufmann gave up her career as a doctor to guide her daughter’s career. The newlyweds will spend the weekend in Las Vegas, but a more prolonged honeymoon must wait because Curtis must be back at Universal Studios Monday for the beginning of a new film, “Captain Newman, M.D.”
