South Vietnam Employs New Propaganda Weapon

May 17, 1962 - U.S. Army helicopters carried South Vietnamese troops to mopping-up operations today in Long An Province, 20 miles southwest of Saigon. Five Communist guerrillas were killed and six suspects seized, the Government said. In addition, a new psychological weapon, a loudspeaker plane that can broadcast propaganda over wide areas, was demonstrated today over the Phu Loi range, 15 miles northeast of Saigon. With the plane circling at 3,000 feet, its taped messages excoriating the Communists were clearly audible on the ground. Leaflets are dropped as well (pictured).
