Saigon Regime Issues Warrant for Madame Nhu’s Arrest

Feb. 25, 1964 - Madame Ngo Dinh Nhu (pictured last October), sister-in-law of the assassinated President of South Vietnam, Ngo Dinh Diem, has been declared an outlaw, a Justice Ministry spokesman said today in Saigon. An order has been issued for Madame Nhu’s arrest, he said. She has been living in exile in France with her four children since the Nov. 1 coup d’état that resulted in the death of President Diem and her husband. Officials said the order probably was issued to pave the way for legal confiscation of property owned by Madame Nhu.

In Paris today, Madame Nhu branded as “idiotic” the request for her extradition. “My extradition? What idiocy is this now?” she asked in a statement. “Is it because they are so beaten on all sides that, to save face, they can do nothing else but attack a widow and orphans?” she demanded.
