Rockwell Applies for Permit to Speak in NYC on Hitler's Birthday

Jan. 23, 1962 - George Lincoln Rockwell, leader of the American Nazi party, has applied for a permit to hold a rally in New York’s Union Square on April 20, Adolf Hitler’s birthday. A Parks Department spokesman said today that Rockwell had applied for a permit several days ago. Commissioner Newbold Morris said today that he was studying the application. Last year, the state Court of Appeals upheld Rockwell’s right to speak in New York. The city had denied him a permit in 1960 to hold a Fourth of July rally. Rockwell, 43 years old, lives in Arlington, Va.
