May 2, 1965 - Rock Hudson (pictured with Gina Lollobrigida and Claudia Cardinale), who has been specializing in romantic dramas, has set his sights on World War II. Hudson’s independent company, Gibraltar Productions, will co-produce “Tobruk” with Universal Pictures.
“Tobruk,” which was written by Leo Gordon, will deal with a British task force that makes an 800-mile forced trek across the Libyan desert in an effort to stop Field Marshal Erwin Rommel’s drive across Africa. It will be produced in Technicolor, largely on location, starting in November.
Hudson is currently in New York filming location scenes for the Universal melodrama, “Blindfold.” He also is slated to star in Paramount’s drama “Seconds” for director John Frankenheimer before starting “Tobruk.”
