June 25, 1963 - Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy bade farewell today to eight teachers who will attend a special training institute on juvenile delinquency in New York. The teachers were immediately greeted by Brumus, Mr. Kennedy’s enormous Newfoundland dog (lower left). When the dog failed to obey the Attorney General’s command, “Down Brumus,” Mr. Kennedy ordered one of his aides to take the dog from the room. Brumus, a sociable type, refused to leave however, and Mr. Kennedy suggested: “Shall we go on with the meeting and act as though he’s not here?” Everyone agreed, and this was done.
