Richard Harris to Join Charlton Heston in Cast of “Major Dundee”

Dec. 29, 1963 - Richard Harris, last seen as the tough rugby player in the British film “This Sporting Life” and previously as a sailor in “Mutiny on the Bounty,” will co-star with Charlton Heston in “Major Dundee,” a Civil War drama to be directed by Sam Peckinpah for Columbia release. Mr. Harris will portray Ben Tyreen, a Confederate officer, dealing with the search for a renegade Apache responsible for the massacre of a unit of the Union Army. Mr. Heston will play a cavalry officer from the South who fights for the North. Filming is scheduled to start Jan. 30 on location in Mexico. Mr. Harris, currently appearing before the cameras in Italy in director Michelangelo Antonioni’s drama “Red Desert,” also plans to play the role of Heathcliff in a projected remake of “Wuthering Heights.”
