July 6, 1961 - The Yankees, it seems, can do just about anything these days except elbow their way into first place. Today, before a gathering of 37,136 fans at the Stadium, Bill Stafford (far right), the cool 22-year-old rookie, allowed only two hits. His catcher, Elston Howard, stroked two eye-filling homers - one to left, the other to right. The Yankees thus scored their second successive shutout over Cleveland, 4-0. Despite this fine effort, the Yanks are still lodged in second place.
