Ford and Spahn Likely All-Star Starters

July 3, 1961 - Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, and Eddie Mathews were the only repeaters from 1960 named today to the starting lineups for the All-Star games on July 11 in San Francisco and July 31 in Boston. Norm Cash, the American League's leading hitter and home-run-hitting sensation of the Tigers, made the team for the first time. The Yankees' Whitey Ford and the Braves' Warren Spahn are the likely starting pitchers in the first game.
