Oct. 21, 1964 - Rumor became fact today when the Yankees sent pitcher Ralph Terry (pictured with Mickey Mantle last year) to the Cleveland Indians as part of the deal through which the American League champions had received relief pitcher Pedro Ramos Sept. 5.
Terry, outstanding in the 1962 World Series when he twice defeated the Giants, had done nothing lately. He had a dismal 7-11 record this season and an equally dismal 4.54 earned-run average.
The 28-year-old righthander’s best season with New York was 1962 when, before the two Series victories, he won 23 games and lost 12. He dipped to 17-15 the following year, and this season’s record made him trade bait.
Terry joined the Yanks in 1956 and, after a 1-2 look, was sent to Kansas City in 1957 along with Billy Martin and Woody Held for Ryne Duren and Harry Simpson. He came back to the Yanks in 1958 with Hector Lopez for Johnny Kucks, Tom Sturdivant, and Jerry Lumpe.
