Peter Falk to Star on CBS-TV Series

Dec. 23, 1964 - Negotiations are in progress for Peter Falk to star next season on a CBS television series about the adventures of a lawyer. The show is titled “The Trials of O’Brien.”

Representatives of both CBS and Falk said today it was possible that a contractual agreement could be reached in a few days. Falk has been active on television, on the stage, and in motion pictures but has never filled the principal role on a weekly television show.

“The Trials of O’Brien,” described as a drama with comedy overtones, would be filmed by Filmways, Inc. Julian Claman has been assigned as producer and Gene Wang as story editor. It was said that Falk would portray a highly unconventional character.

Lorne Greene, boss of the Ponderosa on “Bonanza,” will stray from the ranch to appear on “Allan Sherman’s Funny Land” and sing “Ringo,” a tune he recently recorded. The Sherman show will be televised by NBC on Monday, Jan. 18, from 9 to 10 p.m.

It was also reported that NBC had plans for Greene to star next spring in a musical special, “Lorne Greene’s American West.”
