Pernell Roberts Appearance on Ed Sullivan Show Canceled

Mar. 11, 1965 - CBS announced today that Pernell Roberts, who portrays Adam Cartwright on NBC’s “Bonanza,” would not appear on the Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday evening as had been scheduled. Bob Precht, producer of the Sullivan show, said he had received a telegram from NBC saying that Roberts would be violating his contract if he appeared on the CBS show.

Roberts will leave the cast of “Bonanza” after this season. He has completed filming all the episodes for this season, but NBC said he was still under contract until all episodes had been televised. Roberts had not asked permission to make a guest appearance on the Sullivan show, NBC said.
