Patricia Neal to Return to England

May 14, 1965 - Patricia Neal, the Academy Award-winning actress who was partially paralyzed by three strokes Feb. 17, will leave the U.S. Monday with her family to return to her home near London.

Her husband, Roald Dahl, a writer, said today: “She’s going to walk on the plane, and she won’t need any help. We’re going to have a short press conference so everyone can judge for himself how well she’s recovered.”

Miss Neal’s right side was paralyzed and her speech affected by the strokes. With the aid of speech and physical therapists, she has regained her ability to walk and needs only a light ankle brace on her right leg, Dahl said. She is rapidly regaining her speech as well.

Miss Neal came to Hollywood in February to play the role of a doctor in John Ford’s “Seven Woman.” She has been replaced in that role by Anne Bancroft.
