Opening today: “Shenandoah”

June 3, 1965 - Opening today is “Shenandoah,” a film set during the Civil War starring James Stewart and featuring Doug McClure, Glenn Corbett, Patrick Wayne, Phillip Alford, and in their film debuts, Katharine Ross and Rosemary Forsyth. The picture was directed by Andrew McLaglen. The American folk song “Oh Shenandoah” features prominently in the film’s soundtrack.

In the story, a Virginia farmer (Stewart) who has vowed to remain neutral during the Civil War is spurred into action when his youngest son (Alford) is taken by Union soldiers.
