Dec. 19, 1964 - On sale today in the U.S. is “I Can’t Explain,” a song by the English rock band the Who, written by Pete Townshend and produced by Shel Talmy. It has not yet been released in the U.K. The B-side is “Bald Headed Woman.”
“I Can’t Explain” is the group’s second single, although it’s first (“Zoot Suit/“I’m the Face”) was released under the name the High Numbers. They have also called themselves the Detours.
The group, comprised of Townshend on guitar, Roger Daltrey on vocals, John Entwistle on bass, and Keith Moon on drums, formed in London earlier this year. Daltrey, Townshend, and Entwistle grew up in Acton, London, and went to Acton County Grammar School. The three met Moon, who grew up in Wembley, in 1961.
