June 27, 1965 - On sale today is “Maggie’s Farm,” a single by Bob Dylan recorded on January 15 and originally released on his album, “Bringing It All Back Home,” in March. The B-side is “On the Road Again.”
The lyrics of the song follow a straightforward blues structure, with the opening line of each verse (“I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more…”) sung twice, then repeated at the end of the verse. The third to fifth lines of each verse elaborate on and explain why the narrator will quit the farm.
On the recording, Dylan plays guitar and is joined by Al Gorgoni (guitar), Jeff Boone (bass), Paul Griffin (keyboards), and Bobby Gregg (drums).
