June 5, 1964 - On sale today is “A World Without Love,” the debut album by the British singing duo Peter and Gordon. The duo is comprised of Gordon Waller (left) and Peter Asher (right) who, along with his sister Jane (center), was a child actor in the 1950s.
The title song of Peter and Gordon’s new LP was composed by Beatle Paul McCartney, a boyfriend of Jane Asher. McCartney wrote the song when he was 16. Peter Asher asked if he and Waller could record it, and McCartney agreed. In the U.K., the song reached No. 1 on both the Record Retailer chart and the New Musical Express chart.
