Nuxhall Shines as Reds Down Dodgers, 12-1

Aug. 18, 1962 - Joe Nuxhall’s 4-hit pitching helped the Reds score a 12-1 victory today over the league-leading Dodgers in Cincinnati. Nuxhall (pictured), in the minors earlier this year, hurled one of his finest games. Over one span, Nuxhall fanned five Dodgers in a row. He struck out 11 in all. The 34-year-old Nuxhall, winning his third in a row since the Reds bought him from San Diego, was backed by a 15-hit attack. Every man in the Reds’ lineup made at least one hit. Wally Post drove in 4 runs, and Frank Robinson had 2 hits, including his 32nd homer. With the Giants victorious today over the Braves, the Dodgers lead San Francisco now by just two-and-a-half games.
